Or if the car is weird. But I can’t seem to even fix my missing front indicator light.
It’s fitted in one of those bulb fittings you see above. It was missing completely so I ordered a new one and some fresh bulbs. All fine and well, no problems getting them, inserting the bulb and then inserting the fitting into the headlight cluster. They are one of these types you twist like 45-90 degrees to lock.
Now the problem is the indicator lights only work when they are in the unlocked position... I keep scratching my head over what is wrong. The left side works and stays in place in the unlocked position but the right just shakes loose with the slightest bump. I tried if they can be inserted in another way or position but it seems like they only make contact and work in the unlocked position... So I must be stupid or this car is fucking weird :P.
Starting to feel like it’s a job for duct tape...

Have you enough blinker fluid?

Been awhile since I tinkered on a Mazda 6/Mazdaspeed 6, but
this thread
leads me to believe the marker sockets can be wonky.
Supposidly (I didn’t dig far enough to find it on Mazda letterhead, but it’s plausible) there was a Technical Service Bulletin to “shim” the metal contacts out on the socket with a dab of silicone/urethane to make a more solid contact.
Also, one user said he was able to put his socket in 180 degrees out of clocking, which could explain your issue, too.

Will try that! Thanks.

Maybe try cleaning the contacts in the light cluster and put a bit of dielectric grease pn them

Beat me to it (by a long shot). We used to carry a ton of those little silicone spacers to push the contacts back out so the signal works back when I worked for Mazda...

Turns out it was a combination of both those issues... when it didn’t work when fitted the proper way I tried if it would fit any other way and thus inserted it a 180 degrees off... then it would make contact but get loose with the slightest jiggle.
So now I bent the contacts out a little bit and made sure left and right side were inserted correctly. Tadaaaa, both sides working perfectly now :).
Thanks for the tips, I dedicated my celebratory back road turbocharged test drive to ‘test’ the indicators to you, good sir :P.
